Meningitis B Vaccine Clinical Trial to Benefit the Tyler Putnam Foundation

altTyler Putnam, a vibrant and athletic 16 year old who was a member of the Rochester Junior Americans program, died tragicaly of Meningitis on July 7th 2011. To honor Tyler's memory and to continue his legacy of giving back, Tyler's dad Lindsay and sister Shannon established a charitable foundation in Tyler's name.

As Tyler was a highly-skilled hockey player who loved the game, the foundation that beas his name provides assistance to Rochester youth who also love the sport, but can't afford it.

Rochester Clinical Research is recruiting healthy volunteers ages 10-18 to test an investigational vaccine for Meningitis B. For every subject enrolled in the study, RCR is making a donation to the Tyler Putnam Foundation.

Meningitis disease type B (MnB) is caused by a certain type of bacteria that can make your adolescent very sick. No vaccine to prevent MnB is currently available.

To learn more about the study or to see if you or your child might qualify for this opportunity, please call RCR at 585-288-0890.

The Tyler Putnam Foundation is a 501c3 not for profit organization set up to assist families who have recently suffered a tragedy and or life altering occurrence and need assistance with registration fees for youth hockey. Through Tyler’s Foundation, families will be able to apply for registration assistance for an upcoming hockey season.
Tyler’s foundation will also provide information about Meningitis and the importance of vaccinations (Even though Tyler was vaccinated, like the flu there are many different strains of the virus) and the importance of Meningitis research including clinical studies that are being performed today that hopefully will provide a vaccine that would cover most, if not all strains of the virus.
Tyler’s dream was to play for his High School team, The Irondequoit Eagles then Junior Hockey then Division I Hockey and ultimately Pro Hockey. He was able to realize two of those dreams, having played for IHS as an eighth and ninth grader then for his mentor Tony Maksymiu with the Maksymum Junior team here in Rochester. At the conclusion of his first Junior season, Tyler was well on his way of realizing his next dream. Tyler was offered roster spots on five Junior A teams from Rochester, Minnesota to San Diego, California. He was very excited about the upcoming season and looking forward to possibly leaving home to pursue his dream.
The foundation is funded solely on donations. If you wish to make a tax deductible donation or receive a tax credit for your donation you may do so by sending a check made payable to: The Tyler Putnam Foundation, mail to 115 Queens Lane Rochester, New York 14617. If you have any questions about the Foundation please contact Lindsay Putnam at 585-544-0604 or at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
